Activate Design

OVERVIEW

Our team was in charge of leading the ‘Activate Design’ Movement at eBay. It was a world wide initiative to spread design thinking, and push design culture within the organization. With the help of our CEO John Donahoe, and Chair of the Design Advisory Board, John Maeda, we had numerous projects, events, and workshops to push this movement forward. I had the privilege of contributing to these with either design, video or photography. 

How can we align a company of 30,000+ employees around one design perspective? A shared set of principles and vocabulary that pointed all of us in one direction. A north star.

PROCESS

We collected over 20 articles from all over the company, we invited 24 designers to come in for a 10 day design jam. We cut and crafted the content into our first version of the playbook. From there, we released it internally to the company for feedback.

THE PLAYBOOK

Once we collected feedback from the organization, we refined the digital playbook and made it public. We had created a foundation of design principles and practices that connected employees from all over the world.

EVENTS

Along with creating the Playbook, we held multiple design events that connected design leaders and spread ideas and inspiration across teams. I helped plan these events and recorded them to tell the story of Activate Design at eBay Inc.
